A series of 90-minute classes for parents and caregivers of children with autism who wish to better understand this disorder. The lectures cover a variety of topics such as communication skills, behavioral skills, social skills, medication and legal aspects.
Classes are taught by rotating faculty members from Children's Hospital and the University of Washington, along with professionals from the community.
Each class includes time for questions. Please consider joining for us for as many sessions as you can!

Autism 101 covers the basics of autism and is offered several times a year. It is for people who either know little about autism, or are dealing with a new diagnosis. Classes are taught by rotating faculty members from Children's Hospital and the University of Washington, along with professionals from the community. There is always a question and answer time at the end of the presentation.
Each class in the Autism 200 series covers different information and specific issues relating to the care of children with autism. Classes are taught by rotating faculty members from Children's Hospital and the University of Washington, along with professionals from the community. The autism classes are designed for parent, teachers and caregivers. The topics associated with the majority of classes are applicable to all age ranges and for a wide variety of children diagnosed with autism. There are a few classes that are geared toward more specific groups. For instance, the “Transitions” class is focused on kids moving toward adulthood. It is helpful to look at the subject title to determine whether or not the class applies to your situation.
The autism classes are designed for parent, teachers and caregivers. Children are strongly encouraged not to attend given the nature and format of the topics and the discussion. The autism classes give parents and caregivers practical skills when interacting with children with autism.
The fee covers one person per class. It is $10 per person. Each individual should register separately. Each class, including those within the Autism 200 series, is $10.
