Dermatology services at Children’s have restarted. The clinic is now located at Children’s Bellevue at 1135 116th Ave NE, Suite 400 in the Overlake Medical Tower.
Dr. Robin Hornung is returning part time from maternity leave and will be seeing patients on Thursday afternoons and Friday mornings, and Dr. Vivian Lombillo will see patients all day on Thursdays. They will be treating the following:
Once we complete our recruitment for several additional dermatologists, we will be able to expand the scope of our services. Telephone consultation for dermatologic issues will not be available until then. We look forward to expanding our dermatology services within the next few months.
Requests for services can be called in to the Clinical Intake nurses at (206) 987-2080 or faxed to (206) 985-3121. Children’s providers may make the request through the CIS.
Questions can be directed to Roger Haenke at Children’s Bellevue, at (206) 987-8910.
Dr. Chris Varley, clinical program director of Inpatient Psychiatry at Children’s, provides information for primary care providers on evaluation and treatment of ADHD in the Quarterly Consult.
Dr. Joel Berg, the chief of pediatric dentistry at the University of Washington School of Dentistry, will be the interim director of Dental Medicine at Children’s until a new director is recruited.
Former director Dr. Bryan Williams announced, more than a year ago, his desire to step down and focus on the clinical aspects of his practice. In the near future we will plan a celebration to thank Williams for his dedicated service to the department and to Children’s Hospital.
By working more closely with the UW School of Dentistry, Children’s will be able to serve more patients and enhance our educational and research missions. Berg will handle the department’s administrative responsibilities and Rebecca Slayton, who currently runs the dental residency program, will join him in an operations leadership role.
Dr. Ron Lemire was honored in the August 2006 issue of Birth Defects Research Part A: Clinical and Molecular Teratology.
The journal contained a festschrift, a collection of articles written by his friends and colleagues to recognize his contributions to birth defects research and developmental pediatrics. His colleagues also express their gratitude to Lemire as their teacher, mentor and friend.
A specialist in developmental pediatrics, Lemire has been at Children’s for more than 40 years, arriving as a resident in 1965 and joining the faculty in 1968. He has been clinical director of Inpatient Services since 2002.
Dr. Gail Shapiro, a Children’s medical staff member who practiced at Northwest Asthma and Allergy Center, died Friday, Aug. 25 during cardiac surgery.
Shapiro did her pediatric residency and allergy fellowship at the University of Washington. She joined the Children’s medical staff in 1974, serving as president from 1989 to 1990.
A clinical professor of pediatrics at the University of Washington School of Medicine, Shapiro conducted research that influenced the way allergy patients are treated throughout the world. This month she was to have received the Brett Ratner Award, the highest honor given to a pediatric allergist, from the American Academy of Pediatrics.
Cheryl Parker received a Golden Apple Teaching Award from the 2006 graduating class of the MEDEX Northwest Division of Physician Assistant Studies at the University of Washington. Parker has been a physician assistant in Orthopedics at Children’s for more than three years.
