Diversity

Children's is a richly diverse organization, as caregivers and advocates for the communities we serve. We acknowledge that families come from many origins and have distinct values, family structures, strengths and special needs.

Diversity: A Core Value at Children's

Children's has been committed to diversity since its inception in 1907. Our mission has embraced excellence in pediatric patient care, education, research, and child advocacy with a commitment to provide care for all children. Diversity is a source of organizational strength and quality of care. As a leading health care provider, Children's is committed to maintaining a culturally competent environment free of barriers and discriminatory practices.

We take into account the diversity and uniqueness of each child and their family to provide respectful care and services that are responsive to their language, race, gender, culture, spiritual values, family configuration, education and other attributes.

Children's has developed five strategic goals in the area of diversity:

  • A diverse workforce that reflects the communities we serve.
  • An environment that reflects our values of inclusion.
  • Providing effective and respectful care compatible with the health beliefs, practices and preferred languages of our patients.
  • Connections with our community through outreach, community service and employee volunteerism.
  • Fostering work/life balance.
