Benefits can be multiplied through 'lead trusts'

Puget Sound Business Journal | March 31, 2005

Many prominent business leaders in the Puget Sound area donate generously and consistently to our area’s charitable organizations. Aside from being personally attached to specific causes that align with their values, they realize that more than their own efforts have contributed to their success.

To give back to the community, these business leaders volunteer on boards, provide corporate sponsorship of events, and make generous annual gifts to nonprofit organizations. Their philanthropy has greatly contributed to this area’s social and economic well-being. And the IRS provides certain rewards to encourage these social investments.

Herpes Virus Sends Many Kids to the Doctor

FOX News | March 5, 2005

Findings from one of the first studies to take a close look at human herpesvirus 6 (search) (HHV-6) are at once reassuring and a cause for concern.

The study shows that a high percentage of children get sick enough to require a trip to the doctor when they are infected with the virus. But the rate of serious illness was much lower than has been reported in studies that included only children who got sick enough to end up in hospital emergency rooms.

In an effort to learn more about herpesvirus 6, Danielle Zerr, MD, MPH, and colleagues from Seattle’s Children’s Hospital and Regional Medical Center closely followed 277 children from birth through the first two years of life.
