A 2005 Children’s study shows that non-white children drown at a disproportionately high rate in Washington state, a pattern reflected nationally. Researchers believe the native cultures of the immigrant parents may be a reason.

Dr. Stanley Stamm decided that kids with chronic or terminal medical conditions needed to have some fun. He thought going to camp for a week would be just the thing to lift sick kids’ spirits and let them know they’re not alone. He and the medical and volunteer support he needed celebrated the 40th year of Stanley Stamm Camp in the shadow of Mount Rainier this week.
A new study published in the July issue of Pediatrics finds that the implementation of a computerized physician order entry system at Children’s did not result in an increase in mortality rates. This study follows a widely publicized study, in the December 2005 issue, that did find an increase in mortality after implementation at Children’s Hospital of Pittsburgh.
