Achieving the Vision with the Support of Our Community

Elna Duffield traces her commitment to Children's Hospital back to high school, when her parents took in a 6-year-old from Whidbey Island who needed a place to stay while being treated for cancer at Children's.

That experience taught Duffield how ordinary people could help a family in need.

When she became an adult, Duffield joined Children's Denny Park and Dr. Forrest L. Flashman guilds and enjoyed the camaraderie and satisfaction of raising money for uncompensated care.

Over the past 30 years Duffield has enlisted hundreds of people to raise money for Children's, and she and her husband, Larry, helped found two of the most successful fundraising guilds at Children's, the SOVREN and Team Seattle guilds.

They've also taken the extra step of including Children's in their estate plan.

"Children's is a very important community asset," says Duffield. "I embrace its mission and admire the heroes who make miracles happen. I especially appreciate the vision to be the best children's hospital. Children's will never be complacent; it will always strive to do more."
