    Dr. Malik is a pediatric endocrinologist at Seattle Children's Hospital and an investigator at Seattle Children's Research Institute (SCRI) where he leads the Improving Diabetes Outcomes Lab dedicated to improving patient health and healthcare quality for youth and young adults with diabetes.

    Research Description

    As an investigator in the Center for Child Health, Behavior and Development, Dr. Malik leads the Improving Diabetes Outcomes Lab. He is currently involved with multiple studies designed to examine and improve health outcomes in youth and young adults with diabetes:

    • The development of a healthcare transition program for emerging adults with diabetes that promotes successful transition to independence with diabetes self-management and adult diabetes care [Principal Investigator]
    • The use of social media to support diabetes management in adolescents with type 1 diabetes [Principal Investigator]
    • The examination of the impact of food security on glucose levels and health care utilization in youth and young adults with diabetes [Site Principal Investigator]
    • The use of financial incentives to improve glycemia in adolescents with type 1 diabetes [Site Principal Investigator]
    • A Phase 3, open-label randomized clinical trial evaluating the efficacy and safety of Afrezza (inhaled insulin) versus rapid-acting insulin analogs [Site Principal Investigator]

    Given his lab's mission to improve the quality of medical care delivered to youth and young adults with diabetes, he also supports Seattle Children's Hospital's involvement in national and international diabetes quality improvement collaboratives, including the T1D Exchange Quality Improvement Collaborative [Site Principal Investigator] and the SWEET Initiative [Site Principal Investigator].
