"Unlocking the secrets of heart disease in children both at the bench and at the bedside, and then developing new diagnostic and treatment approaches is most rewarding. In that way, my work extends not only to the children I personally treat but also to those cared for by other physicians."

    Research Description

We also perform research in Kawasaki Disease, which is an inflammatory syndrome attacking coronary arteries in children. Our work includes drug studies in animal models, and pharmacogenomic studies in patients. We are also performing clincial trials in patients.

We study cardiac metabolism and the impact of changing substrate utilization on the heart during development and during pathological states such as heart failure and cardiopulmonary bypass. Thyroid regulation of metabolism is a primary interest. Work is translational and progresses from basic benchtop studies to mice to large animals to the bedside.

    Research Focus Area

Cardiac Metabolism, Cardiology, Congenital Cardiac Surgery Outcomes, Kawasaki Disease, Pulmonary
