Growth and Feeding Dynamics Clinic

The Growth and Feeding Dynamics program treats children ages 9 months to 4 years old who are unable to eat, refuse to eat or have a hard time eating. Our team of dietitians, social workers, and occupational and physical therapists provides nutritional assessments and counseling. We work closely with you and your child's doctors to get you all the care you need, including helping you find resources in your own community.

Please note that our team cannot order medical and laboratory tests or arrange for hospital admission for your child. For these services, please contact your primary care doctor.

Conditions we treat

In children ages 9 months to 4 years:

• Failure to thrive

  Failure to thrive describes children whose weight or rate of weight gain is far below that of other children of the same age and sex. The condition has many causes. For example, children who fail to thrive may not be receiving the calories they need to gain weight and grow as expected. Or, their bodies may not be able to take in, keep or use those calories properly. Most diagnoses of failure to thrive are made in the first few years of life - a crucial period of physical and mental development.

• Feeding problems, such as reluctance or refusal to eat or drink (feeding aversion) or poor progress in moving to solid foods

Seattle Children's provides health care for the special needs of children regardless of race, sex, creed, ethnicity or disability. Financial assistance for medically necessary services is based on family income and hospital resources and is provided to children under age 21 whose primary residence is Washington, Alaska, Montana and Idaho.
