Newborn Intensive Care Unit (NICU)

The Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU), formerly called the Infant Intensive Care Unit (IICU), cares for infants younger than 44 weeks old.

We provide treatment and support to critically ill infants, from tiny premies to full-term infants who have multiple congenital (present at birth) problems or surgical needs.

We have the experience to respond to each infant's physiological, developmental and emotional needs.

Our patients and families come from Washington, Alaska, Montana and Idaho, and infants may stay with us for just a few days, to several weeks or even months.

The unit is designed with our patients, their families and our staff in mind. The single and double rooms in our 19-bed facility have adjustable lighting and are designed to reduce outside noise.

We recognize that the critical illness of a child, especially a newborn, is a challenging and sometimes frightening experience for families.

Our staff is committed to clinical excellence, family-centered care and teamwork to provide the best possible outcomes for our patients and a supportive environment for their families.
